Cupcake Push-Ups!

Yes, you heard it right, cupcake push-ups. You all remember the ice cream we had as kids, I remember an orange flavor of the orange goo, (aka - ice cream) in a paper push up pop that got really soggy toward the end, but you pushed your ice cream through and enjoyed it. Well this is the same concept, but with cupcakes. Yes, cupcakes. Cute, huh? I have found several links and blogs talking about this new product/idea to hit the cupcake phenomenon.
A little cupcake, a little bit of icing, a little cupcake, a little of icing, a little cupcake, a little bit of icing.
Olivia loved hers...

...and so did Nicholas!

These were actually a new recipe I had wanted to try - a gluten free, Guatemalan sweet cake. The cake was delicious, though it didn't pair well with the icing. But it was still loved by both the kiddos!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!

I was so happy to be able to create this special

and sweet cake for a little girls 4th birthday.

She was in love with the movie Tangled, so the theme of her party was set. So to celebrate her birthday they did so at Pigtails and Crewcuts (a local children's hair salon) getting dolled up in princess outfits, with hair, nails and a little bit of makeup.

Yet another chance to work with PVC pipe! You can not understand how happy and excited I was to be able to work with this! I LOVE it, I feel like Buddy, from TLC The Cake Boss. Though, I'm not quite up to his level yet...
i'm getting there, baby steps! :-)
The PVC pipe is covered in rice krispies and then covered in fondant using some impression mats.
They finally get used, hooray!

And you can not forget the main characters,

Flynn and Rapunzel herself!

I had the rest of the character set, ordered for the little girl to play with after her party

Happy 4th Birthday Caroline!

SURPRISE! Happy 40th Birthday Cher!

Hopping Away...

For our close family friends, I created an Easter cookie basket for her to overnight to her family in Miami, FL.
I love making cookies, but this has only been my second time I've made cookie pops. Cookies on lollipop sticks! For this attempt I found a new tutorial online that suggested to bake the cookies on top of the popsicle sticks. It worked!!

Fishes swimming, bunnies hopping...

A long time ago, I use to work at a indoor swimming pool - Charlotte Aquatics. It was an awesome place to work and swim at, well, not really swim at. All they did was teach swimming lessons, 6 days a week. I started off as a "lifeguard" now known as a TA or teaching assistants. Later I became a certified water safety instructor (WSI) and was able to officially teach lessons. I did this every summer starting in high school and then summers during college and even some after college. It was a great place to work at. Who knew that I would be taking MY kids there to learn how to swim! They are almost there, Nicholas is no longer afraid and Olivia just has to get passed her fear of being dropped and she's off and swimming on her own. But in time they will learn.

Anyway, I made some CUTE cookies for our teacher Tara and for the staff there. Had to include a fish or two and since it was Easter weekend, I included a few Easter themed cookies too!

For a sweet little girl was baptized this morning at St. Gabriels Catholic Church, here in Charlotte.

It's a Hookah!

This is a first! I had a UNC Charlotte student give me a call earlier in the week asking for a special birthday cake. Every year she does something unique and special and this year she wanted me to create a Hookah cake for her and her friend. She does not use a Hookah for what it is intended for, but more of a symbol of her culture and as decor in her home.

One of the Hookahs she let me borrow for inspiration

you can read more about what a hookah is here

The Hookah is sitting on a "pillow" cake and the pipe is created using PVC pipe!

Here I created what is used on top of a hookah, a piece of foil with charcoal

This is a first - Happy Birthday in Farsi

The first line says Happy Birthday

the second line say Amir

and the third say Mona

Happy Birthday Amir and Mona!

Old McDonald had a....tractor?

Well, ok the tractor is not pictured, the little boy has it at home and was going to put it on top of his farm cake. But here is the finished product. This was for a little boy who was turning 4 and was having a John Deere/Farm theme birthday.

I LOVE the little piggy, especially with it's cute little curly tail!

May The Force Be With You!

For all those who loved the original when it debuted in 1977,
and to those who have discovered it since.
For all those who were fans as kids
and have now introduced this to their kids,
this cake is for you.
May The Force Be With You Jackson!
A Stars Wars theme for this sweet little 5 year old.
Luke and his father Darth Vader adorned the top of the cake
and their light sabers on the bottom.
I hand cut the letters and the characters from fondant
and embellished them with dusting powder and icing.
Yoda, R2D2, and C3PO
Happy Birthday Jackson!

Cake Pop Bouquets!

Our close family friend ask me to make a variation of her favorite cake bite, this time on a popsicle stick. I have made dozens of cupcake bites over the years and this was the first time I put them on popsicle sticks. We got the idea of arranging them in bouquets for her guest to admire and enjoy as favors after her party.

Mickey Mouse and Disney!

This weekend we took the kids camping in order to prepare us and them for our upcoming trip to DISNEY in May! We can not wait and have been dying to tell the kids since we decided back in December. We are going camping at Fort Wilderness for a weekend next month and in order to prepare we did a trial run at Cane Creek Park about 45 minutes from us outside of Waxhaw, NC. The kids LOVED it and so did we!
So in order to tell the kids, I made some cute Mickey Mouse cookies for us to enjoy!
The kids were excited about the news and the cookies were a hit!

Wedding Bells!

Another wedding has come and gone and I was thrilled to be able to make this cake, or should I say cupcakes, for an old high school friend. We were a few years apart in high school, but she performed in all of the school musicals while I was always in the orchestra pit.

Jennifer and her fiance Ethiene were married this afternoon, April 3, 2011. And what a beautiful and warm Sunday afternoon to get married. For those who do not live near by, we have had a strange blast of cold, rainy weather lately, so they lucked out with today's forecast!
Jennifer is my first bride to ask for cupcakes! 125 cupcakes to be exact! I was thrilled to help her out and it wasn't that bad at all to do so. Though the kitchen was a disaster for a few days, in the end the results were stunning.

Her colors were yellow and white which we incorporated into the cupcakes and the top tier of their cake. They wanted Chocolate, Lemon and Vanilla cupcakes with daisy flowers on each cupcake. Her inspiration for their cake came from a Martha Stewart picture, so we broke it down to create something special for just them.
My week started with making a few hundred or so of the small daisy like flowers so each cupcake would be adorned with two and then their cake had a few dozen or so of the white ones. I also prepped about 10lbs of vanilla buttercream and 5 lbs of lemon buttercream to decorate all the cakes!

But overall, I was thrilled to see the end results and was happy to help them out on their very special day.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez!

Fútbol - Manchester United

Grooms cakes are so much fun to make. Here is a delicious strawberry cake with vanilla buttercream I made for a groom and their rehearsal dinner this weekend. He loves fútbol, or as we call it here, soccer, and his favorite team is Manchester United. So I was asked to make the teams logo on their cake.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Rodiguez!

2 Sweet Little Girls!

For sisters, Emma and Ella, who are two years and 7 days apart, I was asked to create a few cupcakes for their joint birthday party. Mom wanted "jumbo" cupcakes for the birthday girls, personalized with a few touches.

Emma, the five year old is into My Little Pony, so I created a pink and purple pony and a few other birthday decor for her cupcake.

Ella, the three year old, wanted a Fancy Nancy cupcake. I tried to think "fancy" and came up with a few ideas for her cupcake.

The rest of the birthday kids had delicious strawberry and/or chocolate cupcakes to eat.

Happy Birthday Emma and Ella!
