Ninja theme Birthday

For a wonderful family who I have been blessed to make their son's cake each year, I was thrilled to take on a new challenge - Ninjas!  He was having his party at his Karate studio, but he was more into a Ninja theme for the cake.  Mom and I got to brainstorming and here is what we created together!

Icing Smiles!

I was given the opportunity to create another outstanding over the top kind of cake for a sweet little girl through the organization Icing Smiles.  

Icing Smiles is a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child.  We understand that the simple things, like a cake, are luxuries to a family battling illness.  Their goal is to create custom cake for the ill child, or their sibling, that provides a temporary escape from worry and creates a positive memory during a difficult time.

This cake was made for beautiful little girl celebrating her 9th birthday with several family and friends at their neighborhood club house.  Her younger brother is battling Mitochondrial Disease, and she too has the gene for the same disease but has not had a severe attack yet as her brother did a few years ago.  Both siblings have birthdays close together, so mom wanted to celebrate a big birthday this year after battling so many health obstacles, so Icing Smiles came to action!

Icing Smiles contacted my close friend and cake artitist Angela Sinnet with Angela's Sugar Shack and asked her to do both, but with such a busy weekend for her she asked if I could help with the weekend as well.  I was thrilled she thought of me and thrilled Icing Smiles contacted us both!  

Hadley's cake was themed after a rock princess party.  Zebra stripes, hot pink and an awesome edible guitar cake topper! 

Both Hadley and her brother are on a gluten free diet.  So mom asked me to create a special gluten free cake special for Hadley to enjoy.  Not only was her cake gluten free, the guitar was made with gluten free Rice Krispies!  (And they are not that bad, my kids have enjoyed eating them!) 

Now here is my friends AMAZING Star Wars Lego theme cake.  All I can say is WOW!

Pink Elephant First Birthday!

This sweet pink elepahant theme cake was for a friend of ours who went to school with my husband and I.  Her little girl was turning one and mom had picked a pink elephant theme for her birthday.

Gotta love train cakes!  

This hand drawn, all buttercream sheet cake was for a little boy who was celebrating his birthday at the NC Train Museum with his family and friends.  He just LOVES trains and mom wanted a cake to help show his love for trains!

Bubba and Bunny Brigade

This special cake is for a family whose little girl was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenille Diabetes a few years ago. Each year they raise money for the JDRF Walk for a Cure.  JDRF's mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.  The money the JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.

Their family team name, Bubba and Bunny's Brigade, is spin off of a nickname they had given their little girl as a baby.  Addy was a rather large baby and her family affectionately referred to her as Bubba.  The nickname stuck, as nicknames tend to do. Her mom says "I'm sure we'll phase it out as Addy approaches a "more sensitive" age, but for now she doesn't seem to mind.  "Bunny" is the stuffed bunny she has had from day one...they have been through a lot together.  Based on the current condition of Bunny, it will be interesting to see what lasts longer, the nickname or Bunny."

The family wears a special shirt with their team name and logo on it.  I helped with creating a sweet treat for the family to enjoy later that day at their cookout for family and friends.

Wine anyone...

This sweet cake was for a friend who was celebrating her birthday with a few friends.  Her favorite bottle of wine is Barefoot Mascato Wine.  So I carved a cake to resemble the wine bottle.

Pretty in Pink Barbie Doll

All buttercream, I love her ruffles around the bottom of her dress!
