Happy Birthday Nicholas!

Sunday was my son's 2nd birthday. We decided to have it across the street at our neighborhood pool, with an Elmo theme.

I think he liked it!

Wedding Cake

Yet again, I take on another wedding cake. This was for a young girl who had already gotten married at the court house but decided to have a small ceremony for close family and friends. And her reception was being hosted by a dear friend at her house who happen to live right down the street from us. So I was happy to help and provide a delicious and beautiful wedding cake for her.
This is a vanilla 3 tiered cake, 10, 8 and 6 inch

Elmo

Hello all, after a short trip to visit Myrtle Beach I'm at it again with another wedding cake and an especially important Birthday cake, Nicholas' 2nd Birthday on Sunday. But before we left for the beach, I got a call from a mom who wanted an Elmo cake for her daughter's first birthday. I wasn't able to make an big cake because we were leaving but I did make her "smash" cake as her mom called it. And I think she like it. Check out the pictures. I did not take these, my brain was thinking about packing for the beach, so these are courtesy of birthday girls mom! Thanks!

All that was left of Elmo

Happy Birthday!

Three parties in one weekend!! Whoo hoo! Well, we were only invited to two out of the three, but that's ok, two was enough for one day with two tired little people by the end of it. I had three birthday cakes for three adorable little children.
Here are the three cakes ready for delivery.
The first was a Barney cake with a dozen purple cupcakes
The next was an Old McDonald theme cake
with a pig, cow, horse and a chicken
Next is my favorite,
a Blue Clues Birthday to look like his birthday invitation.
Happy Birthday!

Happy 4th of July!

Hooray!! I did it again, another wedding cake!! This was for some very dear friends of ours, Peppie and Narja, who got married on the 4th of July! My husband, myself and our daughter were in the wedding and I was asked to make their wedding cake!! Oh my!! What a crazy week I've had, but it was a success!! The cake turned out great and our daughter was great! I have to admit I wasn't sure if she would be successful in walking down the aisle with everyone looking at her, but she was a hit! She LOVED every minute of it. I even had some time to put together an AWESOME bouquet of cupcakes and flowers for the rehearsal dinner. Next on the agenda are some birthday cakes for next weekend!

Here is the cupcake bouquet.
Here is the cake, they had a patriotic theme wedding cake
Here is me with my cake!
Here is the family, minus Nicholas.

What a Blur...

It's been one month since my last post, my apologies, but between a small trip to the beach and a million cakes and a few cookies in between, I'm finally getting around to posting.

Here is a baby shower cake I did for an expecting mom,
guess what she is having?
This is the Grooms cake for a wedding I did. The groom went to Wake Forest.
And here is the wedding cake, a bit different than a typical white wedding cake.
But I really liked it, and it turned out well!
Following the wedding cake I did a baby shower cake
for a dear friend who is expecting in August.
The cakes keep coming...here is a birthday cake for Carol.
This cake may look a bit different, but this was for a parent's
shared 50th surprise Birthday.
The colors are an odd match, but to help explain,
one parent went to Louisiana State University
and the other one went to Tennessee.
It's that time of year, Graduations!
I wasn't swamped with graduation cakes as I had thought.
Here is a graduation cake for a young man graduating from my alma mater, Providence High.
And here is another graduating senior, also from Providence.
Go class of 2009!
On to the COOKIES!!!
Yes, I was asked to make a few cookies for some welcoming baskets
for a wedding this coming weekend, July 4.
Well 120 to be exact!! Oh My!
But all was good when they were finally done.
Here are some of them...
more cookies....
and more cookies!!
The final product put together in the box.

And since I was so exhausted from cookie making I couldn't possible do another cake, despite my desire to do this one. I decided to do a brownie "cake", not quite as I had expected.
But darn delicious!!
Off to do the wedding cake for the 4th of July!!

Birthday, Birthday, Birthday

My last two cakes were done almost 2 weeks ago but I never did get to post because we left that Monday for the beach, Hilton Head, SC!! We go every year with my folks but this year it rained and rained and rained and when we got home to Charlotte, it was still raining and hasn't stopped yet! But we made the best out of our trip and enjoyed what we could with the kids stuck in a town home for 4 1/2 days, we even decided to leave early because the weather was so bad.

BUT enough about me and the beach, let's move onto cakes! Yes, I did two cakes for two different birthdays. First was for a young boy who plays Chess and wanted a chess board. His mom found these neat chocolate chess molds online and I created the pieces and put them together on the cake. The board is chocolate, the cake is chocolate, and the icing is chocolate, talk about being in chocolate heaven! However when I took the picture you'll see I'm missing the White King, well just as I was popping out the last of the chocolate pieces before taking a picture the White King fell a little to quickly out of his shell and the top part broke off. No worries, just re-melt chocolate and start again. So the picture is lacking a piece, but the Birthday Boy got all 32 pieces the next day.

The next cake was an interesting adventure. This young girl wanted to have a Madeline theme birthday. Her sister had had one when she was younger and now it was her turn. I was given the birthday plate and asked to recreate it. I wanted to create the picture on the cake as close as possible.
I had heard about a using powdered sugar glaze, sounded like powdered sugar watered down with probably some corn syrup (and choice of color) to turn it into a "pourable" liquid to "fill in" the traced picture to create a smooth glass top look. Well for some reason I knew what to do, but I thinned down the buttercream icing instead! Silly me! So the decoration looks just like the plate, but not as smooth and shiny as I had hope! Well when I realized my mistake I had to keep going, no turning back. It turned out ok and my husband was impressed and I believe the Birthday girl was too! Also missing in this picture is one of Madeline's school friends hair had not been colored. No problem I melted some chocolate and filled in her brown hair. Turned out pretty good!

Next on the schedule is a baby shower cake this weekend and a BIG wedding cake for next weekend along with a grooms cake and another baby shower cake!! More to follow later...
