Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentines Day! I had a few cakes orders to do this weekend. First I had an adorable truck birthday cake to do for a friends little boy who was turning 4. This was a yellow cake with a mix of vanilla and some chocolate icing. It turned out really CUTE!
This was for a husband who works with stocks, buying and selling them. He was turning 40 on Valentines Day and his wife was surprising him with a cake. The cake idea was to show on one side his age and then across the bottom to show important dates in his life and how he gradually got "better with age". The dates were the year he was born, age 16 - driver's license, high graduation, turning 21, getting married, the birth of his two kids and then the big 40.
This was an experimental cake inspired by a blog posting on Bakerella.
The cake is a Red Velvet cake covered in cream cheese icing and covered in red marshmallow fondant. For some reason the fondant was not cooperating so it had started to crack in a few places. I believe it was bit on the dry side, I should have used Crisco to help give it that extra moisture as I was kneading it. But it still turned out looking good. The top goodies, are just left over cake crumbs and an extra bit of both the red velvet and the yellow cake turned into cake balls and coated in chocolate with sprinkles. The idea is to represent a candy box, but the heart shape "box" is actually the cake. The Red Velvet cake recipe was also a trial and error and it was a success and DELICIOUS!

I made this for a family friend who has been in and out of the hospital over the past several weeks. I hope this makes him and his family feel a bit better.

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines Day!
